The Mythology of the Moon Goddess is rather misleading because of the Roman and Greek differences. Selene (pronounced Sih LEE nee) or Artemis (depending on the Culture) was in in fact the Moon goddess. The Romans called them Artemis and Diana. I will use Selene because I found her name to be rather familiar. After all in Japanese there is no distinction of the L and the R. So princess Serenity would make sense. In Roman, Selene bears the name Luna. Helios, the sun god is Selenes brother. Every day Helios would drive his chariot across the sky, making the sun rise, Selene would eventually follow him, creating the night and her crown would light up the night sky.
Most would remember Selenes romance with Endymion. Or rather a would be romance. Endymion was more concerned about his looks than a swooning Selene. In one story about their relationship, Selene begged Zeus to give Endymion to give him anything he wanted. Endymion chose eternal youth and beauty in as a consequence, eternal sleep. Oh those Greek tragedies. ...v_v...
